Sharon K. Nusbaum to receive Ohef Sholom Temple’s Men’s Club’s 2018 Henry B. Kaufmann Award

This year’s recipient of Ohef Sholom Temple Men’s Club’s Henry B. Kaufmann Award is Sharon K. Nusbaum. A long-time Ohef Sholom congregant, Nusbaum is the wife of Bill (also a Kaufmann Award recipient) and the mother of Leigh.

Nusbaum’s past and current temple activities include: membership on the Caring Committee and serving on the board of directors (both as a regular board member and secretary). She is a coordinator for greeters at Shabbat evening services and leader of the OST Walking Group. Nusbaum served as Sisterhood co-president for three years and has co-chaired or participated in committees including: The Torah Restoration committee, the Sanctuary’s 100th Anniversary celebration, the 175th Anniversary ad-hoc committee, Temple Sinai merger ceremony committee and the UJFT CRC’s Interfaith committee. She is a graduate of the Florence Melton School of Jewish Learning.

In the greater community, Nusbaum serves as vice-chair of the board of directors for Virginia Supportive Housing (providing permanent housing and services for single adults in South Hampton Roads, Richmond, and Charlottesville), is immediate past chair of VHS’s Hampton Roads Mission Advancement Council, a member of the Rumi Forum Hampton Roads Advisory Board, as well as a long-time volunteer for the Democratic Party of Virginia having worked past campaigns for Al Gore, Hillary Clinton, and Ralph Northam. Other past community involvement includes chairing a Norfolk program for non-violent offenders and a Norfolk Harborfest committee.

Nusbaum’s work history includes stints as a juvenile probation officer, school fundraiser, and associate broker at S.L. Nusbaum Realty Company.
