Hebrew Academy fifth graders had an exciting learning adventure, stepping back in time to experience life during the Civil War. Students visited Pamplin Historical Park and the National Museum of the Civil War Soldier in Petersburg, Va. A 424-acre historical campus, the complex features museums, antebellum homes, a historic Civil War battlefield, slave life exhibit, educational programs and special events.

Students walked through the earthworks, looking over the battlefields and viewed sites where many significant events occurred that shaped America. The students also toured a home that was turned into army headquarters and other living quarters, and listened intently to the stories of soldiers reenacting life during this time in history.

Having just completed their social studies unit and novels on the Civil War, the fifth graders were well prepared to lead the conversation with the tour guide.
