Calling all student artists for Umbrella Project

by | Mar 23, 2018 | What’s Happening

Deadline for submissions: Friday, March 30

In celebration of Israel’s 70th anniversary, the Simon Family JCC will be adorned with a sky full of umbrellas to resemble a similar installation in the streets of Jerusalem and other cities around the world. In fact, the Community Relations Council of United Jewish Federation of Tidewater has already distributed hundreds of umbrellas to be painted for the Tidewater Umbrella Project. The umbrellas will be displayed in the JCC’s Cardo, just in time for Yom Ha’atzmaut, Israel’s Independence Day, and the community celebration of Israel Fest on Sunday, April 22.

Students from the Tidewater Jewish community are asked to depict their vision of Israel onto a plain, white umbrella, with the simple prompt, “What does Israel look like to you?” All materials are provided with the generous support from the Helen G. Gifford Foundation.

To participate, e-mail WWeissman@ujft.org or AAbramov@ujft.org or call 965- 6107. Submissions are due no later than Friday, March 30.
